Inexpensive Car Modifications that Won't Break the Bank

Posted on

Who says modifying your car has to cost and arm and a leg? While there are plenty of expensive modifications on the market, there are other, more affordable options. So if you're looking to modify your car without breaking the bank, check out these budget-friendly ideas listed below.

Upgrade the Spark Plugs

Although small in size, spark plugs play a major role in the function of a vehicle's engine. They are responsible for creating the initial spark of electricity that ignites the engine and triggers combustion. Over time, however, spark plugs will begin to lose their ability to produce a strong spark. This can result in a weaker combustion with less engine power. Consider upgrading your spark plugs to squeeze a little more juice out of your engine.

New Tires

Don't underestimate the importance of having high-quality tires on your vehicle. Many drivers choose the cheapest tires possibly, assuming it has little-to-no impact on their car's performance. But in reality, tires play a critical role in a vehicle's performance. A good set will offer greater traction with the road; thereby, improving your vehicle's handling while making it more fuel efficient in the process.

Aftermarket Exhaust

Another inexpensive car modification is an aftermarket exhaust. Aside from making your car "sound better," it will improve the deliverability of exhaust gases, allowing them to escape from your vehicle with greater ease. As a result, your car's engine will breathe better, which should free up some engine power. It's not going to make a huge difference in terms of power, but it's a cheap and easy upgrade that many drivers overlook.

New Seats

Installing new seats in your car isn't going to offer any performance benefits, but it can make your car look better. Rather than using the generic factory seats, look for bucket-style racing seats. You can expect to pay a couple hundred bucks a piece for them, but the positive impact they have on your car's interior makes them well worth the investment.

Air Intake

Arguably, one of the best low-cost ways to improve the performance of a car or truck is to install an air intake. The purpose of this device is to force more air into the engine's combustion chamber. Going back to the basics of high school physics, more oxygen means greater combustion. And when your vehicle produces a stronger combustion, you'll get more horsepower out of the engine. It's just that simple.
